Update from the Yanomami
Geostory Camp
March 20th, 2026
We want to share an important update regarding the upcoming Geostory Camp planned in collaboration with the Urihi Yanomami Association.
Due to a recent outbreak of whooping cough (coqueluche) affecting communities in the Yanomami Territory, the communities are currently in isolation as a protective measure. As a result, we have made the decision to postpone the camp until it is safe to gather and all health risks have been addressed.
Health teams have confirmed multiple cases in the region, including child fatalities, and emergency medical teams are actively supporting communities. In response, Indigenous health services and epidemiological teams are conducting ongoing monitoring and expanding vaccination campaigns to contain the spread of the disease.
The safety and wellbeing of Yanomami communities always comes first. We will only resume plans once all relevant authorities and the community association have provided formal approval and it is fully safe to be present in the territory.
For now, we anticipate the Geostory Camp taking place towards the end of the second quarter, depending on how the situation evolves.Once conditions allow, the camp will move forward as planned, continuing our collaboration to strengthen Indigenous storytelling and territorial protection.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
