Our Grandparents Hunted Here
Trading traditional bows and arrows for cameras and drones, these forest guardians are exposing environmental crimes and fighting to prevent the Amazon from transforming into an open savannah.
Our Grandparents Hunted Here takes the viewer to the frontline of a dangerous fight for the world’s forests and rivers, where we start to understand how Indigenous community members across the Brazilian Amazon are using the art of filmmaking, photography, and activism as a powerful visual weapon against illegal logging and environmental destruction.
The story is told in contrasts: the Indigenous protagonists walk a careful line between modern and traditional societies. Scenes cut from city scenes to river scenes in a heartbeat, as these are two different worlds that the protagonists inhabit with equal confidence and skill. We witness the emotional and systemic challenges the protagonists need to overcome as the underdog in their fight for the Amazon rainforest. We follow the characters on walks in the jungle as they approach deforested areas, using drones as a surveillance tool to document forest crimes.
